Today we got to have a meet and greet with our Visiting Professor and Director of Choral Activities, Dr. Adam Potter. What a great way for students to get to know him and discuss goals for our choral program over the next two years. We are so excited to see what he and our students work on together. Welcome to the CapFam, Dr. Potter!

Happy graduation day! We asked some of our graduating seniors what their favorite memory with the conservatory of music has been in their past four years here. We are so proud of all of our graduates and can’t wait to see what they do!

After more than two decades without a pep band, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Marc Parulekar to reinvigorate this spirited musical tradition at athletics competitions and special events.

A triple-graduate of The Ohio State University (BME, MA, and Ph.D.), Dr. Parulekar said there is no substitute for the energy of live music, adding that the pep band will provide “a soundtrack” and “spark” to Comet athletics and school pride, uniting the athletes, fans and musicians.

Concerts at the Fountains 🎶🎺

Nothing beats live jazz on a beautiful day. Huge shoutout to our Jazz Lab, directed by Professor Tom Davis, for an incredible performance at the Reflection Fountains—and to our music tech students for running sound behind the scenes.

Days like this = great music, fresh air, and campus at its best. 🌿🎷

So much work goes in behind the scenes here in the Conservatory before we are able to perform. From hours of rehearsal to printing programs, but one of the largest tasks is keeping the Conservatory clean and useable for our students, staff, and guests.

Dean Zugger and Conservatory students recently recognized CeCe, a facilities management team member with a heart for the Conservatory. Thank you again CeCe for all you do to keep our Conservatory building clean and functioning!

You are invited to attend the Twelfth Annual Mark Flugge Tribute Concert on May 18th at 7:30 pm at Boulevard Presbyterian Church in Grandview. We are delighted to be hosted by Vaughn Wiester’s Famous Jazz Orchestra, and will be recording this live performance for the next album release in the Mark Flugge Remembered series! Big Band arrangements of Mark’s compositions include Billy Wolfe’s “Familiarity” and “Se Amour Lamente” (premiere), Lucas Holmes’ “Truth”, Bob Larson’s “The Letter” (premiere), Ryan Hamilton’s “Fridays at the Hyde”, and Chas Baker’s “Mi Zai”. Additionally, Rachel Sepulveda will sing a new arrangement of “Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep”, by Vaughn Wiester.

The concert will also feature the 2026 Capital University Mark Flugge Jazz Award winner, McCray Martin, on solo piano. Vocalist Jody Mancini and pianist Lucas Holmes will perform a set of jazz standards. The Andy Woodson combo (Michael Cox, saxophone; Paul Strawser, piano; Jim Rupp, drum set; and Lisa Jelle, flute) will premiere Andy’s new composition “Dr. Bombay”. Tony Zilincik’s new composition “Memory Made Sound” will be premiered by Tony and Lisa Jelle.

All of the new compositions and arrangements on this concert were written in tribute to Mark Flugge, and commissioned by the Mark Flugge Memorial Fund. The Fund’s purpose is to further the musical and educational legacy of Mark Flugge (1962-2014), an extremely gifted and inspirational jazz pianist, composer, teacher and bandleader who shaped the central Ohio jazz scene in countless ways. Donations may be made to the Mark Flugge Memorial Fund to support various projects.
