UNE Center for Excellence in the Neurosciences The CEN aims to foster creativity and collaboration among people who have a passion for understanding the complexity of the nervous system.

Neurological diseases represent enormous health, economic and social burdens to the United States as well as the rest of the world. Chronic pain, for example, is estimated to affect more than 50% of the U.S. population, and its direct and indirect economic impact is estimated to exceed $100 billion annually. The Center for Excellence in the Neurosciences aims to foster creativity and collaboration

among people who have a passion for understanding the complexities of the nervous system and applying this knowledge to improve human health, productivity and quality of life.

It's another ! Today we're wowing you with this image captured by our and Core. This is a tyrosine-hydroxylase-expressing neuron in the rat brain surrounded by other subsets of neurons and the nuclei of non-neuronal cells like microglia, astrocytes, and endothelial cells. TH(green), NeuN (magenta), cell nuclei (blue).

On this Monday , check out our and Core's image of Langerhans cells and nerve fibers intertwining in a cross-section of hind paw skin.
