UNE Global The Global Education Program develops and promotes global educational opportunities. It works close

The Global Education Program aims to foster global citizenship in the UNE community through a variety of programs, events and partnerships. The team manages semester-long study abroad programs at our exciting new campus in Tangier, Morocco; exchange programs with partner universities in Spain and France; and short-term faculty-led travel courses in Belize, Thailand, Cuba, Brazil and other destinat

ions around the world. Within the international education community, the Global Education Program seeks to build partnerships that will enable students at other institutions to study at UNE Morocco. In addition, the Global Education Program supports international students on our two Maine campuses, offering international student services and F-1 student advising. last week we visited an Embera indigenous village in Chagres National Park! We rode in wooden boats to the village. We got a lunch of fresh fish, plantains, and fruit, learned about their traditional dances and tattoo art, and then hiked to a waterfall where we swam and cooled off.

During their recent visit to Tangier, the University of New England Board of Trustees had the opportunity to tour Donabo Gardens and see firsthand the meaningful work being carried out by UNE students through internships and experiential learning. Graciously hosted by Cherifa Lalla Malika, the visit offered a powerful example of how global education comes to life through place-based partnerships.

Through opportunities at Donabo Gardens, students engage in hands-on learning connected to sustainability, stewardship, cultural heritage, and cross-cultural communication. These experiences allow students to translate classroom knowledge into practical impact while building professional skills, confidence, and adaptability.

The visit also underscored the distinctive value of UNE Tangier, where students gain access to learning environments that are both globally relevant and deeply rooted in the local community. Internships such as these help prepare students to lead thoughtfully and effectively in an increasingly interconnected world.
