During their recent visit to Tangier, the University of New England Board of Trustees had the opportunity to tour Donabo Gardens and see firsthand the meaningful work being carried out by UNE students through internships and experiential learning. Graciously hosted by Cherifa Lalla Malika, the visit offered a powerful example of how global education comes to life through place-based partnerships.
Through opportunities at Donabo Gardens, students engage in hands-on learning connected to sustainability, stewardship, cultural heritage, and cross-cultural communication. These experiences allow students to translate classroom knowledge into practical impact while building professional skills, confidence, and adaptability.
The visit also underscored the distinctive value of UNE Tangier, where students gain access to learning environments that are both globally relevant and deeply rooted in the local community. Internships such as these help prepare students to lead thoughtfully and effectively in an increasingly interconnected world.
