Ferris State University - Doctorate in Community College Leadership

Ferris State University - Doctorate in Community College Leadership The Ferris doctor of education (Ed.D.) program was created for leaders of mission-driven, 21st-century community colleges.

Courses are taught by experienced college leaders, including current and recent community college presidents, vice presidents, and deans. This program is designed to prepare leaders for the changing environments in education. This inquiry-based, problem-solving, action-oriented approach is designed to develop the essential skills that will lead to success, regardless of the level from which gradua

tes will lead. Topics include finance, technology, resource development, marketing, teaching and learning, policy, and leadership. A key feature of the program is that the dissertation may take any of four forms and is integrated throughout the three-year program, with a goal of having individuals complete the dissertation by the end of the three years of the program.

DCCL has more great news to share! Marcus Bennett, Cohort 3, recently received the prestigious 2025–2026 Staff Excellence Award at Northwestern Michigan College.

Marcus is deeply grateful for this recognition and notes this honor would not have been possible without the incredible teamwork of the NMC Residence Life team who support and inspire him every day with positivity and encouragement.
Marcus is convinced excellence is never achieved alone; it is built through serving others, lifting one another up, and leading with compassion.

This is a great honor, Marcus! Congratulations! 👏

Congratulations to James Stancil, Texas Cohort 4, on being invited as a contributing author for the upcoming edited volume tentatively titled "Student Success: Reimagined, Renewed, and Redefined", led by researcher Antione D. Tomlin.

James will author a chapter titled Mattering, Momentum, and Matriculation: Reimagining First-Year Experience for Adult Learners and Dual Credit Students. The chapter is grounded in his recent practicum work focused on inclusive, equity-centered strategies to support adult learners and dual-credit students during first-year transition.

In addition, James recently completed the Proctor Qualitative Research Training Program at Rutgers University’s Graduate School of Education, earning certification in qualitative research methods.

We celebrate James’s continued impact as a practitioner-scholar and his commitment to advancing student-centered, research-informed practices that promote access, belonging, and persistence in higher education.

Congratulations James!
