Today’s Scholar’s Spotlight goes out to two of our amazing seniors, Emily Mendelson & Eta Pastreich. Emily and Eta, advised by Katherine Bouman, curated an entire exhibit for the Binghamton University Art Museum titled “Visualizing Voyeurism”. These photos are from the day the exhibit opened, but as the semester got cut short, not everyone got the chance to see it in person. Because of this, the BU Art Museum is holding virtual presentations of the exhibitions via zoom, and the curators will be able to present their work and answer questions. This event will be occurring Thursday, April 23rd, from 6-7pm. If you are interested in watching Emily and Eta present their exhibit, use the link below to take you to the Facebook event, where you will find the zoom link!

Here’s your Scholars Spotlight of the week, this time from the Class of 2022!
•••
Dave Mathews is double majoring in philosophy and integrative neuroscience. He says, “I am very involved in various groups around campus. I am a Student Mentor for the Scholars Program, a TedX Student Speaker, and on Mock Trial. I participated in the Guthrie Pre-Medical Internship doing research studying the impact of health psychologists who implanted into primary care clinics.”
•••
Evy DeVoesick is majoring in Biochemistry with a minor in Spanish. Evy says “I love being involved in different groups on campus! I have enjoyed my time on council and I can't wait to be a Scholars Program Assistant next year. One new thing I got involved with this semester is tutoring individuals with special needs through Gigi's Playhouse. Gigi's Playhouse is a Down syndrome achievement center that provides free educational, therapeutic-based and career development programs for individuals with Down syndrome. I spend an hour a week with two kids teaching them the alphabet and working on early reading skills. The two hours a week that I spend with them are the most rewarding and fun hours of my week. I have really enjoyed volunteering with Gigi's Playhouse and giving back to the Binghamton community.”
•••
Sarah Ludwig is majoring in Biology, and she says “This year I was able to be the VP of Community Service for the Scholars Council which was such an amazing experience. I got to work with the rest of my Council on planning fun events for everyone in the program and it really taught me a lot about leadership and working successfully as a team. I loved being able to work with the people on Council and I got to know so many more incredible people in the program!”

If you would like to be featured in a Scholars Spotlight, check the weekly email and fill out the form attached. Thank you to those who have already participated! @ Binghamton University

I'm also a member of Alpha Omega Epsilon, the professional sorority for women in engineering and technical sciences. I'm in the FRI Image and Acoustic Signals Analysis stream, studying human motion synthesis. Soon, I'll be assisting a professor with circuit design and computer architecture research. Scholars allowed me to meet all of my best friends at Binghamton and has given me so many fun opportunities with them- like the Washington D.C trip, one of my favorite events from this year!”
•••
Brandon Smith is majoring in Biological Sciences/Pre-Med and minoring in Economics. Brandon says, “I am currently in the second semester of FRI for the biofilms stream and a TA for intro-psychology. it’s time for another 💡Scholars Spotlight💡

• Cameron Wallace is a freshman in the Harpur School currently developing his own major in the environmental studies department to study landscape architecture. He also minors in Spanish and graphic design. At the end of the fall semester he was elected Vice President of New Member Engagement, to be a voice on council for his peers & the freshman class. Throughout his time on council, Cameron has grown into being a great leader and has done a great job being the VPNME. A quote from Cameron is as follows:

•”Being on council has given me the opportunity to get even more involved in the program and meet so many more people. I think it’s really cool to be able to come up with your own ideas for events and see them come into fruition, and more importantly seeing your peers have fun. I have loved my time on council, it has given me a newfound appreciation for all the hard work that goes into running such an amazing program!” •

These photos are from one year ago when our SCHL280D- Istanbul: World Crossroads class took a trip to Istanbul, Turkey over Spring Break to get a first hand experience seeing all the places they had learned about in the classroom.
