The UAB Department of Nutrition Sciences is the global leader in lifestyle wellness, incorporating nutrition and lifestyle research and education to prevent chronic disease and facilitate optimum health and wellness in everyone. We are proud to have two major NIH-funded research centers – the Nutrition Obesity Research Center and the Diabetes Research Center and three NIH-funded T32 training grant

s – within our department. With a mixture of in-classroom and online courses, our undergraduate, master’s, and PhD programs are training the next generation of nutrition researchers, educators, dietitians, and practitioners.

More children are at risk for type 2 diabetes, and you can help us learn why. The DISCOVERY study for children ages 9-14 is working to make a difference for all children and young people. Participate in in-person and phone visits, lab tests, questionnaires, physical exams, and glucose (blood sugar) monitoring. No medications, no cost — and you will be compensated for your time.
