Before there was the Heersink School of Medicine as we know it today, there was Dr. Roy Kracke, the visionary leader who helped build Alabama’s first four-year medical school from the ground up. Now, his legacy lives on at Kracke Plaza, honoring a man whose vision helped shape the future of medicine, research, and patient care in Birmingham and beyond.

From one faculty member and no students in 1944 to one of the nation’s largest academic medical centers today, the impact of that vision continues to grow. Read the full story in UAB Medicine magazine.
