Samford University Micah Fellows

Samford University Micah Fellows Micah Fellows is a 4 yr service program at Samford University focusing on the 3 principles of Micah 6:8. Do Justice. Love Mercy. Walk Humbly.

Micah Fellows is a four-year program grounded in the wisdom of Micah 6:8b: “And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah Fellows enter the program as freshmen, and commit to dedicating part of their time and intellect to community engagement in high-need neighborhoods. To support their service initiatives, Micah Fellows take reco

mmended coursework in a variety of disciplines and a series of small group studies that cover conceptions of justice, mercy, and humility. At Samford, we recognize that the city of Birmingham has a distinctive role in the progress of human and civil rights. Because of this, we not only have a unique opportunity to learn from the history of the city, but also to use what we learn about that history to positively affect its future. Micah Fellows work with service organizations in specific high-need neighborhoods in Birmingham to enact this change, while also learning about effective methods of service and city leadership. The components of the Micah Fellows program include internships with service organizations in the Birmingham area, spring break service opportunities, a $3,000 service abroad scholarship, and a capstone grant-awarding project for local service agencies.
