Always excited to see our CS students venture out and have those real-world experiences. Just as excited when they come back and share those experiences with others. Here is a story about how our CS students did just that.

A panel moderated by professor Greg Kawell this fall introduced students to the internships and external research experiences for undergraduates (REUs) that can have a profound impact on career paths.

This amazing group of Samford Computer Science students traveled to the Auburn Hackathon this past weekend and walked away with 2nd place. For three of the women it was only their second hackathon and both times they have placed 2nd. Great job by these amazing women: Anisha Nizar Ali, Lyra Lapuyade, Aliah Ojendky, Gabby Hoefer.

So proud of Edgar Flores and John-Anthony Jimenez. These two men are some of our first to graduate with CS degrees AND were part of the Samford STEM Scholars program. They started their college careers at a community college and came to Samford to finish up with undergraduate degrees. Both have done amazing work and we know their future will be bright.

This past week was the ACM Mid-Southeast fall conference. As we have done for years we took a group of students to present their research and once again Samford University students won awards for their research and presentations. Andrew Freeman took 2nd place and Gabby Hoefer and Anisha Nizar Ali took 3rd place. What a great group of students we have at Samford in Computer Science.

Just want to remind any Samford who are currently working in IT or are CS grads who might be coming to Samford Homecoming tomorrow that the Math/CS Department will have a tent set up near the School of Arts & Science tent. We will have some sweet treats for all who come by and we would love to hear what everyone is up to. Some of our current students will also be around so some great networking can take place. Hope to see a great crowd out tomorrow from 10:30 - 1:30.

It has been a few years, but Computer Science will once again have a tailgating tent on the Quad this homecoming weekend. Saturday Nov. 3 from 10:30 - 1:00 we will be setup with sweet treats. Our tent will be near the School of Arts & Science tent. Grab some food from across the Quad and come by the CS tent to fellowship with current and former students. It will be a great day to make new friends and reconnect with old. Really looking forward to it. See you Saturday!!!!!
