What a great weekend with our Low Vision Rehabilitation Graduate Certificate students! 17 learners traveled to UAB to participate in skills checkout, putting their knowledge into practice and connecting with faculty and peers. We're excited to celebrate this milestone and all the hard work that brought them here. Congratulations! 🎉

A change of scenery for OTD5 this week!

Students traded SHP for Vulcan Park and Museum, where they toured the park, enjoyed the views, and spent time learning in a different setting.

With places like this in our backyard, Birmingham makes a pretty great classroom.

What if therapy looked a little more like magic? ✨

A collaboration between UAB Arts in Medicine and the UAB Department of Occupational Therapy, OT Magic Camp gives children with disabilities the chance to learn real magic tricks while building confidence, creativity, social skills, and more along the way. The camp is led by our occupational therapy students, who work one-on-one with campers throughout the month before the experience wraps up with a final magic show for family and friends.

Magic Camp is free and open to children ages 9–18 with disabilities.

Learning extends far beyond the classroom through our City as a Classroom series. 🌆

Yesterday, our OTD6 students visited the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute to engage with the history, stories, and experiences that continue to shape health and community today.

By using Birmingham as a living classroom, students get a deeper understanding of the people and communities they will serve as future occupational therapy practitioners.

Join us in congratulating Phuong Quach on her publication and the successful defense of her dissertation, “Enhancing Dynamic Balance and Mobility in Adolescents with Cerebral Palsy and Spina Bifida.”
