🌱 Now in its third year, the UTTC Fresh Harvest Initiative has grown from humble beginnings with a simple free sandwich fridge into a broader effort to strengthen food access on our campus. With SARE funding, we’re continuing to grow beyond food distribution to focus on community education, hands-on learning, and getting our campus community involved in our own food system. 🌾

Recently, we’ve had the pleasure of hosting educational events that celebrate traditional foods and the knowledge within our community! 🫐🍃

🍯 Thank you to former UTTC faculty member Sherry Niesar for sharing her knowledge during our chokecherry jelly-making class.

🌽 Thank you to Gerilynn Yazzie, an Elementary Education student, for sharing her knowledge of traditional Navajo foods and treating participants to blue corn mush and Navajo tea. ☕

💚 These events reflect what the Fresh Harvest Initiative is all about: bringing people together through food, sharing knowledge, celebrating traditional foodways, and creating more opportunities for our campus community to participate in growing, preparing, preserving, and sharing food. 🌱🥕🤝

Indigenous Peoples’ Day is a time to honor our history, celebrate our cultures, and recognize the strength and resilience of Indigenous Peoples.
