Kappa Delta is excited to be working with Theta this week to help raise money for NRV CARES and CASA!

* NRV CARES directly impacts the New River Valley community by teaching educational workshops for parents and by checking on families

* CASA represents abused and neglected children from the NRV area in court

Child abuse is currently being underreported since workers aren’t able to check on homes due to the pandemic. Our community needs our help now more than ever.

Check out our page to see how you can help now through 9/23!

“When people ask me what the girls in my sorority are like, I always say the same thing: that we’re all so different. We come from all different places, different upbringings, different backgrounds. Some of us like sports, some of us like cooking, some of us like fashion and makeup, but it doesn’t matter because we all share the same core values. My big, Charlotte and I are so different yet somehow the same exact human (I miss you🥺).

With these girls it’s always just the simplest moments that feel like so much more - like laying in bed watching Disney+ with Grace & Ariana, laughing so hard we’re in tears. The company is always just too good to pass up. This quote sums up my days with these girls best: “The days you realize there's not enough time because you want to live forever, those are the biggest days.” Those are a lot of the days I’ve had in KD.

Everyone I’ve met embodies a love for people, for life, for adventure. These girls are so cool and I never felt that was intimidating, but rather inspiring and exciting. As I talked to girls during rush, I felt values of evident generosity, loyalty, integrity and strength come so naturally.
I could go on forever about these girls but I’ll finish by saying this: the best part of KD, for me, was finding people that value friendships above all else. Everyone has your back and you have theirs - those are the kinds of friendships I got from KD.”

This is brought to you by Senior Sasha Grossman!!

“Why Kappa Delta? Easy. At first, it was for Hawee-- who preffed me during rush and made me feel so included and loved during the recruitment process now 3 years ago. For Caroline Cipolla, my very first and still one of my best friends in Kappa Delta who drove 5 hours to come see me before her soccer game one summer. Then it was for my big, Katie, who told me on a Thursday night we were going to drive 13 hours to Tallahassee the next morning for the VT/FSU game and have the time of our lives. We did. It's for Maria, my best friend, who wandered the streets of Barcelona with me when we got locked out of our Airbnb on my 21st birthday with dead phones and no wallets. For my roommates, Kayla, Catie, and Hanna, who have taught me that empowered women empower women. You'll probably see them in Forbes one day. It's for my wonderful friends who have always supported me through every good and bad decision, and encouraged me to run for pledge mom: BEST DECISION EVER. That brings me to today, where it's for the new girls, who I have been so blessed to get to know and share my time with. Those girls are the future of Kappa Delta and wowww is it SO bright.

Throughout college I've learned that if you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, go together. So many people have been together with me as I've come so far these past four years, and I attribute so much of that self-confidence, interpersonal and career growth, and absolute JOY to KD. I never thought I would be as happy as I am. It's important to pay attention to who you're with when you feel your best - for me, that's when I'm with my best friends in Kappa Delta. AOT!!”

This comes from sophomore Hayleigh Holland 🤍🤍

“I was wayyyy too comfortable in the KD house during recruitment week. By day two I was busting out my terrible dance moves walking out the door for everyone to see. The time I spent with KD always went by way too fast and I was always excited to go back. A couple rounds in, I met my biggie and sugar momma Haven Lakey and I remember talking to her about things that I literally only talked about with my closest friends. The connections I made were so immediate and I felt so welcomed and loved even after a solid five minutes of conversation. All of the girls in KD are of a rare breed, and I picked up on that very quickly. They are all so beautifully unique, coming from so many different backgrounds and experiences, yet all share such deep compassion for others and more importantly, each other. The girls that KD brought into my life have made it so much brighter in so many ways. I know I can count on and confide in them for anything, or even crash at their apartment for two weeks straight without them getting sick of me (Hailey Payne sleepover soon 😉 ??). I am so beyond lucky for all that KD has given me. It is undoubtedly one of the best decisions I have ever made.”

We’re kicking off our first Why KD Wednesday with Junior Molly Ferguson!!

“From the moment I walked into the KD house in the first round of recruitment, I felt right at home. Each morning when we would get houses back, kappa delta was the first name I would look for. I saw qualities of the person I wanted to become in every girl I talked to. Since joining, I’ve made some of the most genuine friendships I could have ever imagined. These girls make me feel loved and welcomed for exactly who I am and make me laugh so hard I cry. KD gave me my big and best friend Tori and so many others that I didn’t know I needed. I am so proud that I am part of a chapter where I can look around a room of my sisters and feel inspired by each one of them in a different way.” 🤍🤍

Our hearts go out to the loved ones of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and all other victims of racism and injustice. We are outraged by the wrongful deaths of people of color across this country and we stand with all who are fighting for justice.

As a sisterhood that values equality and kindness, we strive to inspire action in our members and our communities. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” We believe that we have a responsibility to address the injustices that the black community are facing and condemn all acts of racism, bigotry, violence, and hate across the country.
“When we’re not hungry for justice, it’s because we’re too full with privilege.” Though our sisters come from many different backgrounds, races, and cultures, we acknowledge that our membership is predominantly white and largely benefits from white privilege. We are responsible for educating ourselves on these privileges so we can better support members of color in our chapter and community.

It’s time to listen, educate, and speak up.

We urge you to use methods below to help make a difference:
-TEXT FLOYD to 55156 to demand that all officers involved in George Floyd’s death are charged with his murder.
-TEXT ENOUGH TO 55156 to demand justice for Breonna Taylor.
-TEXT JUSTICE to 55156 and 668366 to demand justice for Ahmaud Arbery.
-DONATE to the organizations mentioned above
-EDUCATE YOURSELF and OTHERS https://blacklivesmatter.com

Use your voice.
