A new study co-authored by Dr. Debby Herbenick synthesizes research on sexual choking, including its health risks, terminology, prevalence, and issues related to consent and the law.

The authors also outline six calls to action to increase awareness, education, research, and risk reduction.⁠

🎉 Congratulations to Dr. Danny Valdez on receiving a D-START award supporting research at the intersection of data science, substance use, and recovery!

This project will use Natural Language Processing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to analyze mobile app data and better understand recovery trajectories. In collaboration with The Phoenix: a Sober, Active Community, the research team will work toward developing a recovery maintenance classifier through the Recovery Insights through Signal Extraction (RISE) project.

The project brings together AHS Co-I Jon Agley, IU Co-I Damir Cavar of the Department of Computational Linguistics, and community partner The Phoenix: a Sober, Active Community.

This study lead-authored by Dr. Ivanka Simić Stanojević examined self-efficacy among 114 direct support and service-providing professionals and identified factors associated with perceived competence in providing LGBTQ+-affirmative care.

Kathy has been appointed as an independent member of the American School Health Association (ASHA) Board and will serve a two-year term beginning January 1, 2027.

When asked about the opportunity, Kathy shared, “I look forward to being part of ASHA where we can work together with support teachers, administrators, and school health professionals to improve student health.”
