Join us this Friday for A Life in Bells: Celebrating Arvo Pärt at 90!

At 6:00 pm, Jeffers Engelhardt will deliver a lecture on "Arvo Pärt at 90: Listening to His Worlds," which will be followed by a reception. At 8:00 pm NOTUS Contemporary Vocal Ensemble will perform a retrospective of Pärt's work, directed by Dominick DiOrio. We are also delighted to report that the Ambassador of Estonia in the United States will attend and introduce the events!

We invite you to join us at two events with Ambassador Eitvydas Bajarūnas taking place on April 2, 2025.

Ambassador Bajarūnas will be presenting a talk titled "Russia’s Hybrid Warfare Against the West – What Should We Do About It?" at 2:15 PM in Shreve Auditorium.

He will also lead a discussion about careers in diplomacy and foreign service at 4:30 PM in GA 4067.

Co-sponsors of this event are the EU Jean Monnet program, the The Polish Studies Center at Indiana University and the Robert F. Byrnes Russian and East European Institute at Indiana University.

Please join REEI, the department of musicology, the history department and the Institute for European Studies for Prof. Steffen Hohne's fascinating lecture titled "The Politics of Historical Memory. Case Studies from Two Ex-Habsburg Cities: Triest and Chernivtsi/Czernowitz."

Prof. Hohne's lecture will explore the complex and continuous processes of exchange and translation between individual cultures and languages. Using Trieste and Chernivtsi/Czernowitz Prof. Hohne will attempt to answer the following question: Is it possible to speak of a specific habitus of the city when dealing with symbolic occupation and removal of monuments?

On Tuesday, December 5th, there will a graduate student lunch and lecture by Dr. Karolina Follis. Dr. Follis is Senior Lecturer of the Department of Politics, Philosophy, and Religion at Lancaster University, UK.

The lunch will take place at Ami Restaurant from 12-1 PM. Graduate students who study migration, healthcare, borders, Ukraine, and Poland are welcome to join. Please RSVP to Dr. Irit Dekel ([email protected]) by 12 pm on December 4 if you would like to join the lunch.

The lecture will take place in the IMU Oak Room from 5-6:30 PM.
