ENVISIONED RESULTS FOR MAJOR GOAL AREAS:
The IFC Executive Board has developed five major goal areas from the needs of the member fraternities here at Illinois Wesleyan University. Envisioned results for each specific area are provided in following sections:
1. Academic Achievement
We feel that the past and present academics have been severely overlooked and attention to academics should be re-i
nstated as one of the top initiatives of the Interfraternity Council. This will be done by requiring and enforcing the minimum chapter GPA and providing resources for chapters that need the assistance, and rewarding chapters that achieve the all men’s average with a discount on their semester dues. Each chapter should be providing, sponsoring, and attending programs related to academic achievement. We would hope that each chapter would implement an academic plan and implement it within their chapter. Our long-term goal would be to take our community GPA above the all men’s average at Illinois Wesleyan University.
2. Member Development and Education
The Interfraternity Council is committed to building a fraternity community, and this involves making sure each chapter develops through the use of educational programming. By promoting the education of fraternity members of individual chapters we can ensure the welfare of the community as a whole. We strive to achieve this by programming in the areas of but not limited to: academic achievement, chapter administration, recruitment and retention, self-governance and standards, risk management, service and philanthropy, and public relations. This will be done by the implementation of programs created by the Vice President of Programming and the Programming Cabinet.
3. Dedication to Philanthropy and Service
Fraternities are known for dedication to the community and raising money to philanthropic needs. The Interfraternity Council will promote and encourage member chapters to develop programs that involve philanthropy. We will also give opportunities for member fraternities to participate in service projects with the entire fraternity community to promote a sense of unity. Each chapter is expected to facilitate their own philanthropy and service events that the IFC will assist in promoting.
4. Accountability and Self Governance
In order for our fraternity community to be self-governing the Interfraternity Council must hold individual members and chapters accountable. Through the Vice President of Standards and the Judicial Board we will establish a community that can hold members and chapters accountable. This will be done by setting clear policies and consequences for violating the IFC bylaws, and creating a fully functional self-governing system that will prove to the University the IFC’s ability to hold its chapters and members accountable for their actions. When accountability becomes present, the fraternity system can progress towards a unified community.
5. Positive Promotion of Fraternity Membership
People don’t join organizations; people join people. The Interfraternity Council intends to promote, encourage, and assist in the recruitment of men for the member fraternities here at Illinois Wesleyan Univeristy. The IFC will be dedicated to the education and advocating of the positive fraternity experience by informing incoming first year men and non-fraternity men about the positive benefits of fraternity membership. The IFC will also encourage chapters to participate in open recruitment both semesters to increase the amount of members present in our chapters, which will raise our percentage of men in fraternities on campus.
