Climate Action at IU

Climate Action at IU Reinvest IU is a grassroots group of Indiana University community members, and we demand that the IU Foundation divest its assets from fossil fuels. Divest now!

Reinvest IU is a grassroots campaign of Indiana University students, faculty, and staff, and we demand that the IU Foundation divest its assets from the top 200-publicly traded fossil fuel companies. We believe it is unethical for Indiana University and its endowment to support an industry that is increasingly associated with economic irresponsibility, endangerment of human and planetary well-bein

g, and rejection of democratic practices and sound science. As fossil fuel companies continue to pollute our society, aggravate global climate change, and disproportionately burden communities with the least resources, it is both urgent and vital to employ democratic, participatory, and non-violent tactics,–including petitions, public protest, and civil disobedience, to reclaim our common future by struggling for a just transition to renewables. We stand in solidarity with communities impacted by climate and environmental injustices, and we strive to learn from and work with others to enact a just, sustainable, and prosperous future for all life on this planet. Therefore, we advocate for a shift in investment and consciousness to reduce carbon emissions and to increase renewable energy development, infrastructure, and education. We call on Indiana University to “fulfill the promise” by changing its current unsustainable refusal to divest. We contend that it is a grave contradiction for the University to claim that it values improving the lives of students while it continues to fund the fossil fuel industrial complex.

Pope Francis said the recent spate of hurricanes should prompt people to understand that humanity will "go down" if it does not address climate change and history will judge those who deny the science on its causes.

From the Sunrise Movement: "U.S. EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt says now is not the time to talk about the "causes and effects" of superstorms like .

‪He couldn't be more wrong. Corrupt politicians like him are the cause, the effects in human lives and livelihoods have never been more clear, and now is exactly the time to talk about it. "

"For our colleges and universities, upholding the Paris Agreement must include divesting from fossil fuels. Only then will they show that their commitments to scientific inquiry and social responsibility are more than just slogans.

These fossil fuel companies are not normal businesses: they have intentionally lied to the American people and their shareholders, poisoned public debate for over four decades, all while pursuing a business model that is wholly incompatible with a safe future on this planet." Katie - 350.org

We all should be furious about Trump's & the GOP's decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement. This is terrible policy, and we should all RESIST-BUILD-RISE. What a sad day for our future, for the United States, and the world!

Here’s what Mr. Trump’s decision on the climate change pact says to the world: America cares little about science, its allies and competitiveness.
