After earning her degree at Northeast State, Ginger continued her education and went on to earn her master’s degree. Today, she serves as a principal clinical research associate at Thermo Fisher Scientific, where she is currently working on an oncology project she hopes will one day help treat cancer patients.

We’re proud to celebrate alumni like Ginger who are using their education to create meaningful impact far beyond the classroom.

Come take a stroll down memory lane with us as we celebrate Northeast State’s 60th anniversary.

We’re sharing the moments that meant the most to our community — one lived story at a time.

For recent alumna Abigail Fanning, some of her favorite Northeast State memories came through the community and support she experienced at the College as a Northeast State Foundation Scholar student.

Today, Abigail is pursuing dual degrees in political science and journalism and media at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville — a journey she says would not have been possible without the support of Northeast State’s faculty, staff, students and friends.

Do you have a favorite Northeast State memory? Comment below, or message us your story and photo for a chance to be featured!

CALLED TO CARE: No two paths in emergency medical services are exactly alike, but they're all united by one goal: helping others.

In this episode of The Sound Bearier, co-hosts Thomas Wilson and Mackenzie Moore-Gent sit down with Northeast State Community College Paramedic instructor Nicholas Santiago and student Chelsea Harris to discuss their journeys through emergency medical services.

Both Nicholas and Chelsea completed Northeast State’s EMT program 14 years ago. Today, Chelsea continues serving patients as she works toward furthering her education in the field, while Nicholas returned to the classroom to help train the next generation of EMT, AEMT and paramedic professionals.

The group reflects on the realities of working in emergency services, the challenges and rewards of the profession and how Northeast State helped shape their paths.

Thank you to Nicholas and Chelsea for sharing their experiences and for the work they do to care for others in moments that matter most.

In 1966, Northeast State Community College looked very different.

The College was known as Tri-Cities Area Vocational-Technical School, classes were just beginning, and the foundation for the institution we know today was only starting to take shape.

In this episode of The Sound Bearier, co-hosts Thomas Wilson and Mackenzie Moore-Gent sit down with Mr. Tom Jarrell — Northeast State’s very first instructor.

Jarrell reflects on the College’s earliest days, the evolution of its programs and students and what it has been like watching Northeast State grow over the past six decades.

Plus, Jarrell shares memories of the legendary end-of-year tricycle races that added plenty of laughter — and just a tad bit of competition — to campus.

As the College celebrates its 60th anniversary, this conversation offers a firsthand look at the people and moments that helped shape our history.

A huge thank you to Mr. Jarrell, who helped lay the foundation for generations of Northeast State students and took the time to share his memories with us. It was truly an honor to gain insight from someone who witnessed the College's earliest days and helped shape its story from the very beginning.
