Northeast State Community College Theatre Department Follow us for updates regarding our 2026-2027 season! ✨🎭

For most, theatre may not seem to be a “practical” career path, but there is no denying that students involved in a college theatre program, regardless of their individual major, learn valuable skills that lay a solid foundation for any career path. Theatre students learn to collaborate with their peers and their instructors, creative problem solve on a daily basis, effectively manage their time,

serve in leadership positions, and learn the responsibility of serving on a team. While they participate in the department and work on building a theatrical production, these theatre students help bring thousands of students, faculty and community members to Northeast State’s campus to share in the final product every year. Supporting a theatre department on our campus not only serves the students and their growth but also serves our campus and community as a whole. NOTE: This page is solely for announcements and updates from the theatre department at Northeast State Community College. Even though we produce our art in the Wellmont Regional Center for the Performing Arts, we are in no way associated with any other events that may take place there. For information about any other events, please contact the WRCPA Manager, Eric Morritt at [email protected]

On April 30, Northeast State held its 35th annual Honors Convocation to recognize the year's outstanding students.

"The college’s annual Honors Convocation recognized Northeast State’s top student achievers in each academic department, students graduating in May with honors, and the Outstanding Student Award and Adult Learner of the Year Award.

The deans of each division presented the program area awards to the winning students." It should come as no surprise that this year's theatre department recipient is our student stage manager, Aivree Byram!

Aivree began her journey with the department as the assistant stage manager for "The Hobbit" in the fall of 2024. She later went on to lead the team for the department's productions of "The Three Musketeers" (Spring 2025), "Feathers and Teeth" (Fall 2025), and most recently, "Heathers: the Musical" (Spring 2026). Her outstanding work earned American College Theatre Festival nominations across multiple productions. Aivree will graduate from Northeast State this month and will continue her education this fall at Middle Tennessee State University, where she plans to earn her Bachelors of Science in Technical Theatre.

It is hard to imagine the last two years without Aivree's passion guiding our casts and crews to success. We simply cannot think of anyone more deserving of this award, and we are eager to see where the future takes her!

Congratulations, Aivree!
