At BMCU, we are proud to prepare the next generation of educators through a faculty team that is passionate about teaching, mentoring, and serving future teachers. Our faculty bring decades of experience in K-12 and higher education and are committed to helping our students become effective, compassionate, and highly qualified educators.
📚 Dr. Ashley Coleman – Dean, School of Education
Dr. Coleman serves as the Dean of the School of Education and brings experience as a secondary English teacher, curriculum specialist, MTSS director, and educational leader and consultant. She holds a Doctor of Education in Teacher Leadership from Freed-Hardeman University and is a National Board Certified Teacher. Dr. Coleman is passionate about developing future educators, building strong school partnerships, and ensuring that BMCU graduates are prepared to make a meaningful impact in classrooms across Mississippi and beyond.
📚 Dr. Kyler Mahar – Assistant Professor of Education
Dr. Mahar serves as Assistant Professor of Education and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the School of Education. He is dedicated to helping teacher candidates connect educational theory to classroom practice and develop the skills necessary to become reflective, effective educators. His passion for student success and commitment to academic excellence make him a valuable mentor to future teachers.
📚 Mrs. Harley Gonzales – Instructor of Education & Social Media Representative
Mrs. Gonzales serves as an Instructor of Education and is also the School of Education's Social Media Representative. With a passion for literacy and teacher preparation, she works closely with students to develop instructional strategies that promote student learning and engagement. Her creativity, enthusiasm, and dedication to the teaching profession help inspire future educators both inside and outside the classroom.
📚 Mrs. Libby Young – Instructor of Education & University Supervisor
Mrs. Young serves as an Instructor of Education and University Supervisor, supporting teacher candidates throughout their field experiences and student teaching placements. A former school administrator and experienced educator, she provides invaluable mentorship and guidance as students transition from college classrooms to K-12 classrooms. Her dedication to student success and strong relationships with partner schools make her an essential part of the BMCU School of Education team.
Together, this faculty team is committed to preparing servant leaders who are equipped to teach, lead, and make a difference in the lives of students.
