Future Business Leaders Learn from Today’s Top Executives

This semester, students at FAU College of Business had a rare opportunity: face-to-face interaction with top executives, including Miami Marlins owner Bruce Sherman, legendary investor Leon Cooperman, and other South Florida business leaders, through a special leadership course created by Michael Block and Dr. Joseph Patton, DBA, MBA.

Through seminar-style discussions, students explored leadership, decision-making, and real-world business challenges—learning how to overcome setbacks, build successful organizations, and gain practical insights straight from the boardroom.

“As incredible as the concept was, the results were phenomenal,” said Dean Daniel Gropper.

Lean Six Sigma Uncovers Hidden Company Problems

55-day proposal cycle time.
23 days of waiting for responses.
And no clear answer as to why contracts weren’t closing.

Josue Saint-Juste was building his own construction company, but most of his time was being spent in the business, not on it.
The problems felt constant. The causes weren’t.

That changed when a classroom capstone with fellow Executive MBA students, guided by Dr. Tres Bishop, turned into a full Lean Six Sigma diagnosis of his company. What followed was a published case study, faster decision-making, and measurable operational improvement.

In this episode of Matters of Business, they take us inside that journey, and why these tools matter for entrepreneurs and working professionals across every industry.
