MEET OUR ALUMNI: Ashlee Holm, MA Class of 2017 and LPN Class of 2018
“Along with my schooling, I was raising two children with all of their activities, plus being a wife. So as a student, mother, and wife I had to prioritize in order to get the grades I wanted. My kids understood and knew that I had school and that I was bettering their lives. I still got to spend time with my family while I was in the MA program, I just had to put the books away until my kids were in bed. There were definitely some late nights, but being a full-time mom and full-time student and having a life in general, I think anyone else can do it.
I was looking for a nursing school with an LPN program, but some other schools in the area wanted a lot of prerequisites and gen-eds finished before I could start the program. At BTC I didn’t have to have any of those; I could take general education classes while enrolled in the nursing classes, which made the program quicker and more convenient for me. BTC’s LPN program didn’t start for another few months, so I went ahead and started the Medical Assistant program to get more nursing experience.
Once I finished the MA program I began working as a Medical Assistant while also taking gen-eds for the LPN program. I took the classes I wanted and had a steady work schedule because BTC had it all planned out before I even signed up for classes. I knew what day, what time, and for how long I would be in classes, and even when the final exams would be, so I could plan out the whole semester with work. ”
