celebrated a historic milestone with a record-breaking Fall 2024 enrollment of 2,069 curriculum students, the highest in its history. This marks an impressive 81% growth since 2006, when curriculum enrollment stood at 1,142 students. Between 2019 and 2024, BCC has experienced significant growth, with enrollment increasing by 28%, showcasing the college’s continued momentum and commitment to serving its students and the community. In 2023, the college welcomed 1,886 students, reflecting a 9.3% increase over the previous year. “Brunswick Community College is proud to deliver quality education that empowers our students and strengthens our community,” said Dr. Gene Smith, President of BCC. “This record-breaking enrollment is a testament to our dedicated faculty, staff, and the growing trust placed in us by students seeking life-changing opportunities.”

The college attributes this success to its forward-thinking approach to education. By expanding programs that align with regional and local workforce demands, BCC equips students with skills for in-demand fields such as healthcare, skilled trades, business, and technology. Strong partnerships with industry leaders and four-year universities also ensure students have pathways to employment and advanced education. Support for Student Success

As America prepares to celebrate 250 years of independence on July 4, the BCC Library is taking Brunswick County back to the Bicentennial era with a newly digitized scrapbook packed with local history, memories, and patriotic spirit.

This 123-page scrapbook captures Brunswick County’s lead-up to America’s 200th birthday celebration in incredible detail. Inside, you’ll find photos, newspaper clippings, parade memories, battlefield reenactments, historic restoration projects, contests, performances, vintage Bicentennial merch, and so much more.

Take a look back at:
• The restoration and ringing of the courthouse bell in Southport
• Colonial life and Battle of Lexington reenactments
• The Miss Bicentennial contest
• Outdoor musical dramas and cantatas
• Photography and painting contests
• The Armed Forces Bicentennial Caravan visit
• The creation of Brunswick County history projects and oral histories
• Historic preservation efforts across the county

And yes… there are bumper stickers, buttons, ribbons, flags, and all the wonderfully patriotic flair you’d expect from the 1970s. 🇺🇸

Student success is everywhere we look at BCC! Determined to create a better future for herself and her family, Kiki set out to earn her high school diploma through BCC’s Adult Education & Literacy program as a participant in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Training and Career program through NCWorks.

Throughout her time in the program, Kiki remained motivated, enthusiastic, and committed to reaching her goals. Through hard work, perseverance, and consistent participation, she successfully completed the program in just three months.

WIOA Training and Career services helped support Kiki’s success by covering testing fees and providing mileage reimbursement to reduce transportation barriers while she attended classes. These resources helped ensure she could remain focused on completing her educational goals.

Kiki’s journey highlights the impact of collaboration between NCWorks, WIOA Training and Career services, Adult Education, and Brunswick Community College in helping individuals overcome barriers, continue their education, and prepare for meaningful career opportunities.

Now a high school graduate, Kiki plans to continue her education while pursuing her Certified Nursing Assistant credential. Her story serves as a powerful example of how workforce and educational partnerships can open doors, create opportunities, and support long-term career pathways for Brunswick County residents.

Congratulations, Kiki! Here she is, proudly displaying her diploma and with her WIOA Youth Career Navigator.
