Early in the morning of January 24, IJM and Ghanaian authorities prepared for a rescue operation. The sun rose over the calm waters of Lake Volta, one of the world’s largest manmade lakes. The team was abuzz with anticipation.

: On Friday night, IJM helped rescue two girls from s*xual exploitation in the Dominican Republic. Authorities arrested an Italian man suspected of s*xually exploiting minors to produce child po*******hy. He is now in police custody, and IJM will continue to support the case so he is restrained and others in the community see real consequences for preying on vulnerable children.

The two girls, 16 and 17 years old, are safe at an aftercare shelter. IJM’s aftercare team was with them over the weekend and will keep checking in as they transition into a new life of freedom.
