Marlboro Institute at Emerson College

Marlboro Institute at Emerson College The Marlboro Institute puts the “I” at the center of your education.

Students pursuing an academic major through the Marlboro Institute complete an Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) program of their own design around a coherent idea or set of questions. It is crafted to uphold Marlboro College’s distinctive educational promise that students can craft their own education, engage in self-directed inquiry, and bring a big idea to life from conception to execution.

Join us October 5 at 2pm in the CoLab Room for a celebration of Assistant Professor Ioana Jucan's new book, Malicious Deceivers: Thinking Machines and Performative Objects. Refreshments will be served.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Malicious Deceivers traces a genealogy of post-truth intimately tied to globalizing modernity and connects the production of repeatable fakeness with capitalism and Cartesian metaphysics. Through case studies that cross times and geographies, the book unpacks the notion of fakeness through the related logics of dissimulation (deception) and simulation (performativity) as seen with software/AI, television, plastics, and the internet.
Watch Dr. Andrade-Watkins' feature documentary, "Some Kind of Funny Porto Rican?": A Cape Verdean American Story this coming Sunday and Tuesday, links available on spiamedia.com.
"SKFPR is the untold tragedy and scandal of what happened to a vibrant community of immigrants from the Cape Verde Islands in the Fox Point section of Providence, Rhode Island who were forcibly displaced by urban renewal to make way for fancy coffee shops, antique stores and elegantly restored houses. Poignant, heartfelt and warm, in a timeless snapshot SKFPR captures the essence, spirit and heart of a community whose history was erased before it was written." (spiamedia.com)
