Dear BUIAA,
Hello! For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Ethan Wong and I’m honored to be the next President of BUIAA for the upcoming school year. I’ve been a part of this organization since I’ve been here at Boston University and I am grateful and humbled to have been trusted to take charge of this community that has made such an impact in our lives.
This summer and the upcoming semester will be a state of transition, from an unprecedented, chaotic time to a more regular, normal period in BUIAA and we hope to come back from COVID stronger than ever before. My mission for this year is to continue the values that have been set by previous administrations, but also to work on ensuring that our community remains a space that is welcoming and engaging to all who wish to be a part of our organization. It is my hope that as part of BUIAA, that we may all engage in an environment that helps to foster personal growth and learning through the spirit of cooperation, support and understanding, and recognizing the importance of maintaining safe and brave spaces for all individuals.
In this mission, as an organization focused on globalization and highlighting the importance of international affairs, we must continue to address and tackle issues that affect the international community as well as the daily lives or community. On our website, we have added a “Newsroom” section, which you can see if you go to https://buiaa.org/newsroom
In this page, we will be addressing matters in global affairs that affect our international community to both raise awareness and to foster and facilitate healthy discussion within our greater community. We must remain diligent in understanding and knowing about global conflicts (whether economic, political, cultural or religious) to help solve problems in the world in our future.
The first statement that is in the newsroom is addressing the current situation and the events that occurred in Sheikh Jarrah. I encourage all members of our organization, past, present and future, to read our statement concerning these acts of violence within this conflicted region. Although we can not be directly part of the solution, we must do our part to remain diligent in being educated about global issues and to interact with our community to ensure that we remain a safe and productive forum for constructive dialogue.
I want to take a moment to appreciate and recognize my executive board, although newly elected, they have taken strides into their roles and I can’t wait to see what they accomplish over the next year.

As an organization dedicated to the discussion, support, and study of global affairs, globalization and international cooperation, the recent events surrounding the escalating violence conducted between Israel and Palestine cannot be ignored.
