Boston University International Affairs Association

Boston University International Affairs Association http://buiaa.org If actions speak louder than words, then the Boston University International Affairs Association creates an eloquent, but deafening roar.

The IAA is broken down into different programs. Many students actively participate in many of them, but some also chose to specialize in just one. They are:
--BosMUN-- our high school MUN Conference with over 1300 participants
--BarMUN-- our collegiate MUN Conference with approximately 200 participants
--IR Review-- BU’s undergraduate international relations news magazine
--MUN@BU-- BU’s MUN trave

l team that attends 6-7 conferences per year; a new team is chosen for each conference.
--Students for the UN (SUN)-- BUIAA's community service branch which seeks to promote a commitment to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals at the college and local levels. How to Get Involved
1.) Step One: send us an email at [email protected]
2.) Step Two: Explore our main website at www.buiaa.org. You will find everything you need to know about our organization by browsing this website!

Dear BUIAA,

Hello! For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Ethan Wong and I’m honored to be the next President of BUIAA for the upcoming school year. I’ve been a part of this organization since I’ve been here at Boston University and I am grateful and humbled to have been trusted to take charge of this community that has made such an impact in our lives.

This summer and the upcoming semester will be a state of transition, from an unprecedented, chaotic time to a more regular, normal period in BUIAA and we hope to come back from COVID stronger than ever before. My mission for this year is to continue the values that have been set by previous administrations, but also to work on ensuring that our community remains a space that is welcoming and engaging to all who wish to be a part of our organization. It is my hope that as part of BUIAA, that we may all engage in an environment that helps to foster personal growth and learning through the spirit of cooperation, support and understanding, and recognizing the importance of maintaining safe and brave spaces for all individuals.

In this mission, as an organization focused on globalization and highlighting the importance of international affairs, we must continue to address and tackle issues that affect the international community as well as the daily lives or community. On our website, we have added a “Newsroom” section, which you can see if you go to https://buiaa.org/newsroom

In this page, we will be addressing matters in global affairs that affect our international community to both raise awareness and to foster and facilitate healthy discussion within our greater community. We must remain diligent in understanding and knowing about global conflicts (whether economic, political, cultural or religious) to help solve problems in the world in our future.

The first statement that is in the newsroom is addressing the current situation and the events that occurred in Sheikh Jarrah. I encourage all members of our organization, past, present and future, to read our statement concerning these acts of violence within this conflicted region. Although we can not be directly part of the solution, we must do our part to remain diligent in being educated about global issues and to interact with our community to ensure that we remain a safe and productive forum for constructive dialogue.

I want to take a moment to appreciate and recognize my executive board, although newly elected, they have taken strides into their roles and I can’t wait to see what they accomplish over the next year.

IRR Co-Editors in Chief: Bridgette Lang & Joshua Wright
SUN Director: Matthew Pruitt
MUN@BU Head Delegate: Bella Newell
BarMUN SG: Barrett Yueh
BOSMUN SG: Stephany YipChoy
Marketing Director: Charles Moore
Treasurer: Mary Thomas
Secretary: Sydney Steger
Vice President: Peyton Coel

Now for some updates!

First of all, I would like to congratulate this year’s MUN@BU Team (formally known as Travel) for their dominating victory and success over the last couple of months. Best Delegate has just realized their All-Stars list and I’m very proud to say that our incoming Head Del, Bella Newell, has been elected to the First Team, a first in BUIAA history! Special recognition also goes to our outgoing Head Delegate, Tim Obiso, who is on the Second Team and Sydney Steger, our incoming Secretary, who is on the Third Team!

BarMUN and BOSMUN are in full swing for hiring staff, with BarMUN hiring crisis staffers again and BOSMUN just releasing their committees for the upcoming year! For all returning and new members of BUIAA, a reminder that Senior Staff Applications just opened! Go to bosmun.org to sign up to staff!

Both the IRR and SUN are looking for staffers and their next directors, so please contact the IRR Co-Editors-in-Chief, Bridgette and Joshua, and the SUN Director, Matthew, if you are looking to apply!

I’m so excited to be leading this amazing and accomplished team over the next year and I hope to help continue and further the achievements and the success of our organization during the upcoming year. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need anything at all, or have any questions for us, we are here for you.

Thank you for taking the time to read this update and we’ll be in touch shortly with introductions and more updates.

Until then, cordially yours,

Ethan Wong

As an organization dedicated to the discussion, support, and study of global affairs, globalization and international cooperation, the recent events surrounding the escalating violence conducted between Israel and Palestine cannot be ignored.
