Meet Salome Yichi Zhang’s latest invention — the Porcelain sequencer!

Rooted in heritage and reimagined through technology, this instrument is built from porcelain pieces sourced from Salome’s family in Hunan.

Using multiple sensors, the system measures the spatial relationship between each porcelain object and a defined lowest point. These measurements are translated into musical data and processed through a custom patch in Max made by Salome.

Last Thursday, we had ARP come through to present a showcase at David Friend Recital Hall, featuring former EPD chair Michael Bierylo, Kristina Warren from Providence in-residence with the ARP Foundation, the Jennifer Hruska Project, and two of our EPD students, Massimo Ferragamo and Richard Bru.
