Graduate Medical Sciences has awarded four high-achieving, graduating students with Outstanding Student Achievement Awards in the “Outstanding Research” and “Community Service” categories.

The “Outstanding Research” Award recognizes achievement related to scientific impact, breakthroughs and intellectual contributions during a student’s time at GMS. The “Community Service” Award recognizes initiative and leadership related to service either in fulfillment of graduate school requirements or extracurricular efforts.

We are less than two weeks away from our Spring 2026 Commencement exercises, where the Graduate Medical Sciences community will celebrate this year’s graduating master’s, PhD, and MD-PhD students.

Riley Scherer is a second-year student in the Master of Science in Forensic Anthropology Program at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. During her time at Graduate Medical Sciences, Riley has researched the taphonomic effects of sharks, studying how shark feeding activity could affect bones that are found in marine environments. Riley earned her Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology with a concentration in Forensics from the University of Montana in Missoula. Learn more about Riley below!

Giving Day 2026 has officially begun at Boston University! Today, we have the opportunity to raise a significant amount of money to support our students through the Graduate Medical Sciences Annual Fund.

If we can reach our $2,626.26 milestone by 2:26 p.m., an anonymous donor will double our amount raised, meaning your gift will go twice as far.

All donations made to the GMS Annual Fund will go directly to our master’s and doctoral students facing a variety of pressing needs like food or housing insecurity and other financial stress.

Micheka Fenelon is is a second-year student in the Master of Science in Medical Sciences program, completing her thesis research in the neurology department at Boston Medical Center.

Micheka is also the student intern for the GMS Community Catalyst Center, where she works directly with peer mentors to build community and belonging among students across our academic programs. Learn more about Micheka in the video above!
