After a year filled with pain, hardship and suffering due to the pandemics of COVID-19 and systemic racism, the final Student-Faculty Forum of 2020 will look to regeneration. Specifically, how to bring health, repair, recovery, growth, and new life to where there was once damage, disease, and destruction.

The CMD-IT Center For Minorities And People With Disabilities In IT is hosting a panel discussion, "Standing Against Racial Injustices: Sharing Our Stories."

Join us August 7th from 1:30pm to 2:30pm CT for a panel discussion examining racial injustice from the perspective of Black professionals in computing. Our panelists will provide their stories of overcoming racial injustices to get to where they are today. They will also share advice and insights about systemic changes needed for equity and inclusion.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:

Dr. Jamika D. Burge is a lead for the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Design team that supports the conversational agent, Eno, at scale, at Capital One. She is also co-founder of blackcomputerHER.org.

Dr. Nicki Washington is a professor of the practice of computer science at Duke University and the author of Unapologetically Dope: Lessons for Black Women and Girls on Surviving and Thriving in the Tech.

Dr. Joel W. Branch is Chief of Product at Lucd, Inc., where he leads development of platforms for end-to-end governance, explainability, and trust in building and deploying AI solutions in the enterprise.

Dr. Bryant W. York was an associate professor of computer science at Boston University (1986 – 1991) and Northeastern University (1991 – 2001), and professor of computer science at Portland State University (2001 – 2019).

Join us for the first annual Theory in Biology Meeting here at Boston University, Thursday May 24-Friday May 25, made possible by the generous support of the Simons Foundation through their MMLS Program. The meeting is organized around the theme of community ecology, metabolism, and the origin of life.

The conference fee for registration before April 1 is $150, which covers lunch and coffee breaks for the two days (fee is $200 for registration after this deadline). Posters are welcome from all participants; the registration form contains an option for submitting titles and abstracts.
