The Simmons dietetic internship class of 2026 completed all of their final requirements this week and received their verification statements to sit for the RD exam,
but that only tells one small part of their story...
This amazing group of students is resilient, thoughtful, and strong. Here are just some of their many impressive accomplishments:
*Several interns graduated high school in the spring of 2020 and started their dietetics journey in college in the fall of 2020. We all remember how fun that year was, and yet here they are having come straight through, still on the path they choose in the fall of 2020!
*All of these interns have survived the introduction of LLM AI platforms introduced right in the middle of their education in 2022. Talk about needing to adapt fast!
*Many of these interns grew up in Massachusetts and had family with them throughout this journey, but at least one intern moved halfway across the country to be with us, two interns moved all the way across the country, and two interns moved halfway around the world!
*Among this group we have fluent speakers of at least four languages: Spanish, Mandarin, Armenia, and Polish, WOW!
*Five of these interns are career changers and had entire lives and careers before deciding to become a Registered Dietitian (two not pictured)
*Two of these interns have worked for the WIC program throughout the MS and DI portions of the program, at least two interns have been working as health coaches, and at least four have been working as a diet tech in one of our local hospitals throughout the MSDI program. What a great way to learn on the job!
*Four of these interns completed our concentration in the treatment of eating disorders, talk about an area of the field in need of trained dietitians!
*Two of these interns completed our concentration in pediatrics, another area of the field desperately in need of trained dietitians!
*One of these interns earned her Associate's degree at North Shore Community College and then took advantage of our affiliation agreement with that institution to complete her Bachelor's in Nutrition and Dietetics at Simmons, before moving on to our 4+1 MS and then the DI program. It sounds like a lot of pieces, when you lay it all out, but they are all designed to fit together easily to provide a smooth path for students who want to make the journey in stages.
*Four of these interns moved seamlessly from the Simmons undergraduate program in Nutrition and Dietetics right into the MS and DI.
*Four of these interns got a bachelor's degree in something else at a different university and then completed the DPD graduate certificate, MS, and Dietetic Internship at Simmons.
*One of these interns completed all of her dietetic education at another institution before joining us for the internship.
ALL of these interns will be missed as they move out into the next phase of their lives. (please send us an update on how you are doing from time to time)
ALL of these interns are ready to go out into the world as Registered Dietitians and change the lives of their patients and clients for the better
We know it hasn't been an easy journey, but we hope it was a worthwhile one.
