When an air conditioner fails during a heat wave or a pipe bursts overnight, homeowners need someone to fix it. But America has a shortage of electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, and other skilled workers who keep our communities running.

Wyatt Smith (MBA 2015) founded UpSmith in 2022 to help address that challenge. What began as a workforce development company has evolved into an AI-powered platform that builds software products to help home service contractors scale their businesses and serve customers more effectively—creating new opportunities for skilled workers in the process.
For Smith, who grew up on a cattle farm in West Alabama, the mission is deeply personal. “The biggest thing I learned in that rural community is grounded in the dignity of work. There is a lot of dignity for people who are builders—who use their labor to construct things, to keep things working, to fix things,” Smith says. “I find it incredibly meaningful to serve people whose job it is to serve others.”USA

Fans of Ted Lasso know Season 4 centers on Ted’s return to England to coach the women’s UFC Richmond team. What they may not realize: The show has a HBS connection, with Angie and Chris Long’s (MBA’05) NWSL team Kansas City Current and CPKC Stadium appearing in Episode 1. “I absolutely adore everything about matchday, but the best part is being with family,” writes Long, who often arrives at the stadium two hours early. “Sports is such a community asset, and our family has loved embracing everything that goes along with it.”

Every reunion, the podcast team sets up shop on campus with a recording rig and a question. This year we asked, "Who was your favorite professor at HBS?" Some would just shout out their answer as they hurried onto a session or to lunch, smiling and giving a thumbs up. Others sat down and shared with us their memories and reflections of the professors who helped shape their HBS experience.

The HBS Fund Investors Society Challenge was a resounding success! Thanks to the generosity of our alumni and friends, we reached a record-breaking 1,930 Investors Society members—surpassing the Challenge goal of 1,908—and unlocked a $5 million gift from the HBS Fund Council and honorary HBS Fund chairs.

Investors Society members provided nearly 80 percent of HBS Fund support last fiscal year—giving the School immediate resources to support students and faculty, strengthen the academic experience, and accelerate innovation in teaching, learning, and research. Thank you!
