📅 Wednesday, Oct. 1, @ 6 pm

Directed by Simon Moutaïrou, this film is inspired by historical accounts of maroons, former slaves in West Africa, who emancipated themselves from French settlements.

🔸Set in 1759 on the island of Mauritius, it follows 16-year-old Mati, who refuses to accept slavery, unlike her father Massamba, broken by years of oppression. She dares to dream beyond the sugar cane plantations…

We hope to see you there for this powerful story!💫

🌹 JOIN US THIS FRIDAY (11/08) @ 6:45 PM in CAS B18 (725 Commonwealth Ave) FOR THE FINAL FILM IN THIS SERIES: "SCARLET" 🌹

"Scarlet" is a 2022 drama film directed by Italian director Pietro Marcello. It draws inspiration from "Scarlet Sails", the 1923 novel by Alexander Grin.

Following World War I, widowed veteran Raphaël returns to rural Normandy to his infant daughter, Juliette. As she grows into a spirited young woman, Juliette dreams of escaping her small town and believes in a witch’s prophecy that scarlet sails will one day whisk her away. Her journey unfolds over two decades of interwar invention, blending music, fantasy, and romance as she meets a daring pilot and pursues her destiny in a timeless story of a young woman’s emancipation.

We apologize for last week's inconvenience and we look forward to see many of you for the grand finale of our film festival! ✨

🦎 Last Thursday, we welcomed acclaimed author Victor Dixen for a special event. Dixen, a two-time Grand Prix de l’Imaginaire winner known for his fantasy novels, joined BU Romance Studies Professor Jennifer Cazenave in a post-screening discussion of The Animal Kingdom (2023). 🌿

The event, in partnership with MIT’s French department, gave students from both BU and MIT a chance to dive deeper into the film’s themes and learn about Dixen’s creative work. This collaboration provided a unique space for students to explore French cinema and literature together.
