Hi everyone,

Happy Indigenous People's Weekend.
To celebrate, I'll be posting a few examples of kick-ass modern art from various indigenous artists from around the world.

To start off with, we'll showcase the work of Robert Peters (Mashpee Wampanoag) whose new mural has just been unveiled in entrance to the dining room at the UMB dorms.

This year, we observe Indigenous Peoples’ Day on Monday, October 11. UMass Boston is on the traditional land of Massachusett people. To welcome students to UMass Boston’s campus this year, and to emphasize that UMass Boston is still Indigenous space, Robert Peters, an artist and member of the Ma...

This Thursday at 3:00 the GEO presents the first film in our Radical Thoughts Film Series. Our aim with this series is to engage grad employees, students, undergrads, faculty and staff in a conversation about issues within the higher ed community and in the greater labor movement at large.

The first film we are screening this Thursday is Default: The Student Loan Documentary, a short PBS documentary from 2011 that looks at the cause and crisis of student loan debt in the US. As many of us as graduate students struggle under the weight of loans accrued from undergrad and grad school, this is an issue that affects us students at UMass Boston directly.

We encourage you to come out and view this important documentary with us and join in conversation with fellow students and employees on campus about the complex and serious issue of student debt.

The film starts at 3:00 in McCormack 02-25. Free pizza will be served!

See you Thursday, feel free to invite friends.

In solidarity,

The GEO Committee
