Hello everyone! Join our own alum Shelia Cordner as she launches her new children's book “Who’s Hiding in this Book?” As they read the book, children will follow the lives of 10 accomplished authors, and receive an introduction to their famous works of literature.

“By celebrating a diverse group of voices, the book paves the way for a lifetime of appreciating classic books,” Cordner remarks. “We are never too young — or too old — to appreciate great literature.”

The book launch will be on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 3 p.m. at Belmont Books, 79 Leonard St., Belmont and all are welcome!

Hey, English Students! On Friday, April 5th from 5:00pm-6:30pm, the BU Center for the Humanities will be holding a panel discussion about pursuing graduate degrees in the humanities.

If you're considering applying to graduate school, you probably have questions, and this panel is intended to answer them. The BUCH will have four current PhD students (and one recently finished!) discuss their experiences with graduate school and the application process and will give their take on whether going to graduate school is really "worth it," as well as answering any questions from those in attendance.

The Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center is hosting a Student Discovery Seminar this Thursday, focusing on Hollywood’s blacklist of actors, screenwriters, and directors. Students will have the opportunity to explore original letters, manuscripts, journals, and photographs from the personal archives of some of these “blacklisted” figures held here at the Center.

Maybe some of you remember Eartha Kitt, a fabulous actress and singer who voiced Yzma in _The Emperor's New Groove_? Did you know she was blacklisted for confronting President L.B. Johnson about the Vietnam War? The stories of how and why famous figures get blacklisted are fascinating, and you'll have to chance to physically interact with documents and photos pertaining to the blacklisting of Langston Hughes, Orson Welles, and more! This is also a great chance to get a sense of how archival research works, and what it means to learn from primary historical documents.

Event details:
When - Thursday, Feb 28th 2019
Where - HGARC Reading Room, Mugar Library 5th Floor
Attendance - Free to BU students with ID

There's a bit more information on the attached poster as well, so be sure to check it out.
