What does it mean to build a creative life that’s grounded in who you are?

Earlier this month, our City Music Summer Scholars were joined by guest panelists W***y Rodriguez, Kimberly Burse, Ray Chew, Lisa Marie Lovett, and Nicholson Porter for an afternoon of music, reflection, and connection. The panel explored experiences in music direction and creative leadership, while also reflecting on each guest’s creative and professional journey, the importance of staying rooted in your “why,” and knowing yourself as you shape what comes next.

The afternoon also featured high-energy performances from The Trumpet Chicks (CAMDEN REP), alongside an all-star band featuring City Music Boston and Summer Scholar students.

A big thank you to our guest panelists for pouring into our students, and congratulations to our Summer Scholars on a wonderful summer of artistry, growth, and hard work.

Our City Music students had the opportunity to join Cuban pianist, composer, and educator Zahili Gonzalez Zamora for her artist workshop!

Throughout the workshop, Zahili shared how her Cuban heritage, experiences around the world, and journey beyond her comfort zone have shaped her artistry and musical voice. Students also had the opportunity to play alongside Zahili, explore the sounds of Latin jazz, and experience the genre through collaboration and performance.

Rapper, producer, and creative director Maye Star MAYE STAR joined our City Music Summer Scholars for a collaborative production workshop.

Join us on Tuesday, August 4 at 7:00 p.m. at the Berklee Performance Center as our City Music students take us on a musical journey, celebrating their creativity, growth, and hard work throughout the summer.
