Jim Sullivan (Moderator) spent 26 years writing about music for the Boston Globe (and two decades more writing for national publications) and is the author of the new books Backstage & Beyond Vol. 1: 45 Years of Classic Rock Chats & Rants and Backstage & Beyond Vol. 2: 45 Years of Modern Rock Chats & Rants. Sullivan has interviewed Eno several times and Eno is a chapter in the first Backstage book.
DAVID BIEBER is President/Curator of the David Bieber Archives, the largest pop culture archive in the world. He is a Boston music and media veteran with a career spanning four decades, including positions as Creative Services Director at the groundbreaking WBCN-FM for 16 years, Director of Special Projects at the Boston Phoenix/WFNX-FM for 19 years. His archives represent 50-plus years of collecting and preserving the popular culture, music and media of the 20th and 21st centuries.
MICHAEL HOWELL (aka M. Howell) is a longtime pop culture observer and critic based in Boston. He wrote for the Boston Phoenix between 1978-1995, primarily about music and the culture changes of punk/new wave. He also launched the paper’s entry into covering the then-erupting phenomenon of music videos. Howell also created the first “Music Video” column for Penthouse as well as interviewed Eno for a discussion of the artist’s December 1983 installation at the old ICA. He is the author, with Jim Sullivan, of The Greatest Music Videos.
TIM JACKSON has written and directed five documentaries, and is a member of the Boston Society of Film Critics currently writing for the ArtsFuse. Over his 50 year career as a musician he has played drums with Robin Lane & The Chartbusters, Tom Rush, and LaVern Baker (among many others) as well as his own group of 37 years, The Band That Time Forgot.
TIM RILEY, the author of six books on rock history, writes the riley rock report on substack. He also reviews pop and classical music for NPR’s Here and Now and On Point, and contributed to the New York Times, truthdig, the Los Angeles Review of Books, and many other publications. He was trained as a classical pianist at Oberlin College and Eastman School of Music. Since 2009, he has taught digital journalism at Emerson College in Boston.
VICTOR ZAPPI is Assistant Professor of Music Technology at the College of Arts Media and Design at Northeastern University. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science/Engineering with a dissertation on the exploration of Virtual Reality technologies in the context of music and performance. As an engineer and a musician, he focuses on the design and use of new interfaces for musical expression, and how we can use today’s most advanced technologies to build novel musical instruments which comply with and engage our physical and cognitive abilities beyond those of traditional instruments.
