TODAY'S PROFILE: Barbara Smith
One of the first 'out', Black le****ns, Barbara Smith was building a community for q***r women of color right here in Boston in 1974 when they were not often highlighted in Feminist circles. An author and activist, her work has pioneered new theories in gender studies, including the now famous anthology "This Bridge Called My Back" (if you're in WGST here at Simmons you all know who she is!). Read her work, and learn more about her life in the link below!

“I didn’t think about legacy while I was doing the work, although I hoped my work would not be erased.”

As we count down to Simmons University's VERY FIRST STONEWALL COMMEMORATION ON APRIL 29TH, we're posting a daily biography of the women who played key roles in advancing LGBTQ+ equality.
Today's Profile: Sylvia Rivera.
Considered one of the first transgender activists and advocates for transgender rights, Sylvia was one of the first protestors at the now infamous Stonewall Riots at the Stonewall Inn in 1969. She wanted a revolution, and she dedicated her life to making that vision come true. You can read more about her incredible life's story in the article below.
