Yesterday, the Pride flag was raised on campus in recognition of Pride Month. As we begin June, we celebrate the diverse individuals and experiences that make up our UW Bothell community.

In the late 1800s, Dr. Reuben Chase, Bothell’s first doctor, lived and worked out of the Chase House, serving as the city’s first hospital. Today, this historic home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and houses the UW Bothell/Cascadia Grounds Team.

From tabletop and roleplaying to computer games and sports, gaming in all forms has long been a favorite pastime for Dr. Eric Stoerm Anderson. It’s more than just a hobby, though. It’s also what led him to pursue a career in nursing and later academia, where he now weaves gaming into his teaching.

“I’ve always kind of seen the world through a gaming lens,” said Anderson, associate teaching professor in the University of Washington Bothell’s School of Nursing & Health Studies. “I recognized the inherent gameyness in the world and that life in general is a sort of game. There are rules, and if you can cleverly use those rules to your benefit, you can do well.”

In his latest course, Anderson explored the utility of games in mental health, education, leadership and professional practice.

As those most likely to experience extreme climate events during their lifetime, younger generations are feeling the burden, and it has already taken a toll. Many youth under the age of 25 — including children as young as preschool age — report having climate anxiety as well as fear and hopelessness for the future.

Younger people also tend to be the most engaged in climate activism. And at the University of Washington Bothell, students now have a new opportunity to channel their passion for climate issues into their personal, academic and career goals through the recently launched minor in Climate Change & Society.

Located just a 15-minute drive from campus, Hooven Forest is a second-growth legacy forest and wetland area featuring more than 180 acres of diverse vegetation and wildlife.

Recently, Hooven was host to the next generation of environmentalists and conservationists from UW Bothell. From water quality testing to invasive species mapping, four students took to the field for their capstone projects.

UW Bothell, out in the community!

05/20/2026

Whether you ran, walked, rolled, volunteered, sponsored or cheered from the sidelines, you helped create something special at UW Bothell this past Saturday. A record number of participants — more than 1,000 alumni, students, families, neighbors and friends — all showed up for UW Bothell students.
This event has always been about more than the finish line. Together, we raised more than $15,000 in support of UW Bothell student scholarships. That means more access, more opportunity and more students can keep going to complete their degree.

Thank you for showing up. Thank you for being part of a caring UW Bothell community. And thank you for supporting UW Bothell students!
