Important announcement for our students, alumni, and friends of our Philosophy and Religion programs.

Yesterday was the last day that we had a stand-alone department of Philosophy and Religion at WKU. Founded as the Department of Philosophy in 1966, with Religious Studies added the following year, the department has had thousands of WKU students pass through its doors over the years, and all of them left at least a little wiser. We are glad that all our programs remain intact, with Religious Studies and Asian Religions and Cultures moving into the History Department, and Philosophy into the Political Science Department, and we look forward to new energies and new ideas in our new homes. Our classes and offices will still be on the third floor in Cherry Hall: come and see us!

Follow us on Twitter for our thread on Hispanic Heritage Month and Religious Studies! We are profiling books and scholars including the late Luis Leon, whose work includes this gem.

Luis D. León's compelling, innovative exploration of religion in the U.S.-Mexican borderlands issues a fundamental challenge to current scholarship in the field and recharts the landscape of Chicano faith. Wonderful news!

The Cynthia and George Nichols III Intercultural Student Engagement Center (ISEC) has received a $60,000 grant from the Jessie Ball duPont Fund for The Climb Continues, a project to support WKU sophomore and junior students of color through programming to increase retention and four-year graduation rates, achieve academic progress, obtain financial literacy and create a stronger cultural campus climate.

ISEC provides student success services, programs and events for the WKU community, particularly underrepresented minority students who may be first-generation and Pell-eligible. Focusing on all aspects of a WKU student’s educational journey, ISEC also offers one-on-one advising and other individualized outreach to ensure student success.

Congrats to our Asian Religions and Cultures major! We wish her a wonderful time in South Korea!

Congratulations to Emily Falica for being accepted to the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) to teach in South Korea! Emily is a 2020 WKU graduate with a major in Asian Religions and Cultures and a minor in Professional Writing and Political Science.

Emily notes, "I applied for this program because I wanted to take a gap year before graduate school, while still gaining teaching experience." In addition to looking forward to the TEFL training the program provides, she hopes to gain "skills in lesson planning and managing a teacher's workload while having an amazing adventure in another country."

Way to go, Emily, and good luck!
