☀️Alumni Spotlight☀️

Meet Joshua Hayes, Director, Title IX Deputy/Investigator, and University ADA Coordinator at Western Kentucky University! 🎉🎊

"More than 10 years ago, I began my journey within the Western Kentucky University (WKU) Master of Arts in Education (M.A.E) in Adult Education program, and graduated in 2011. When I applied to the WKU Adult Education program, I had recently completed a master’s degree and certificate in leadership through WKU, learned a significant amount about leadership theories and how to remain calm in meetings, for example, when individuals exuded characteristics of negativity. My graduate degree and certificate in leadership utilized an in-person class approach, and due to my aspirations for wanting to pursue a doctoral degree, I applied to the WKU Adult Education program for three primary reasons.
1️⃣ I wanted to fully submerge myself in an online program in case the future doctoral program I pursued would implement a significant number of online classes. 2️⃣ As a full-time WKU employee, I did not envision transitioning from my place of employment to pursue an in-person terminal degree. 3️⃣ I needed to improve my academic writing skills, a struggle many of us students and aspiring scholars face. Based on information I researched about the Adult Education program, it captured the essence of what I needed (and sought to accomplish) personally, academically, and professionally. In summary, because of the Adult Education program, I was accepted into two Research I doctoral programs and will successfully defend my dissertation soon; I remained employed full-time at WKU (approximately 14 years now) and have progressed in my career; and I enhanced my writing skills significantly, which have been implemented within my doctoral journey and department of employment. Furthermore, and unexpectedly, I received a mentor in Dr. Jim Berger. Our cohesive relationship began more than 10 years ago, and not only has Dr. Berger been exceptionally attentive, he has forced me to overcome challenges, and grow consistently; Dr. Berger is a superb professor, an impeccable friend, and someone I consider family. As a product and graduate of the M.A.E. in Adult Education program at WKU, I have been beyond fortunate to transcend to levels of personal, academic, and professional enhancement I never imagined would be within reach. I am always willing to converse with prospective students who are considering pursuit of the M.A.E. in Adult Education degree at WKU, students who are currently enrolled in the program, and/or graduates who are interested in pursuing a doctoral degree.”

Our Story

Adult education usually refers to the adult status of students and the concept of a facilitator working with that adult to help them learn material they feel is necessary to improve some part of their lives.

Western Kentucky University offers an Online Master of Arts in Education in Adult Education.

This program serves individuals seeking to learn more about working with and helping adults learn, whether in corporate training, patient education, community education, continuing education, adult basic education, or adult literacy/ESL. Completing the courses enables graduate students to gain hands-on experience and skills to turn theory into practice.

Admission is simple. No GRE; undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or above, and a portfolio of your work and educational philosophy.
