In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, we are grateful for the opportunity to serve as a training facility for student learning experiences and are excited to welcome Katie Hornsby as our graduate-level counseling intern for the upcoming academic year.

“My name is Katie Hornsby, and I am excited to join KAP this year as a graduate counseling intern. I earned my Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from WKU in 2023 and am currently studying Mental Health Counseling. I look forward to working with clients, learning new strategies to support the neurodivergent community, and becoming part of the KAP community.”

It may look like your typical rehearsal for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, sponsored by The Community Foundation of South Central Kentucky , but in true KAP fashion, every scene is filled with opportunities for growth. Throughout rehearsals, participants are building teamwork skills, practicing turn-taking, and using both high-tech and low-tech communication supports to bring the story to life.

The big performance is next Thursday, and we cannot wait for everyone to be transported to the enchanted world of Athens as our participants take the stage in full costume. Watch this page for more photos as the big day gets closer!

We would like to extend a huge thank you to the Community Foundation for supporting the KAP Team as we help Prime Time participants in developing teamwork, active listening, communication, and turn-taking skills through the engaging world of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. We are incredibly grateful for community partners who believe in creating meaningful and engaging learning opportunities for the participants we serve.

The Training Innovation Project needs your help. Please share this post and encourage businesses to complete this survey that will help us use resources to support them and strengthen workforce participation.

Did you know that nearly 1 in 4 adults in the United States has a disability, yet people with disabilities continue to be far less likely to be employed than those without disabilities. Research consistently shows that many people with disabilities want to work and contribute their skills and talents, but are often an under-utilized part of the talent pipeline.

To better support businesses and strengthen workforce participation, the Training Innovation Project (TIP) is inviting businesses to complete a brief anonymous survey about disability and employment. This input will help us better understand what information, resources, and training are most wanted and needed.

If you are a business, take a few minutes to complete the survey linked below and share it with businesses near and far! The survey will be available until June 30, 2026.

Happy Speech-Language Pathologist Day to our resident expert, Caroline Hudson!

Caroline is the secret ingredient that takes our programming to the next level. Whether she is teaching our youngest scholars about phonics and sounds or embedding AAC and meaningful choice-making opportunities with our nonspeaking adults, Caroline sprinkles language and communication throughout everything we do at the SVCEC.
