Western Kentucky University Water Professionals

Western Kentucky University Water Professionals Water is the essence of all life. But along with water comes the management of its many forms. You don't have to be a water manager to join this club!

As a student chapter of the Kentucky/Tennessee Section of the American Water Works Association and Water Environment Association, this club seeks to create a network of students interested in the field of water resource management. As water managers, we strive to understand and predict Kentucky and Tennessee's drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater. We welcome all students and community affiliates who care about the safety and accessibility of Bowling Green's water resources.

We hope that you were able to stop by this past Friday to celebrate Earth Day with us! WKU Water Professionals set up a blind water tasting test to see if anyone could tell the difference between popular water bottle brands and tap water. While some students were able to tell them apart, many were shocked to find that tap water tastes just as great as bottled water!

We also joined in presenting and appreciating the hard-working team at the BGMU Wastewater Treatment Facility with certificates of recognition. This amazing group of people work 365 days a year to help ensure that you have access to one of life’s most important necessities to survive! On behalf of the WKU Water Professional, we again would like to thank the staff at BMGU for their dedication and contributions to our community here in Bowling Green!

Hey everyone! Hope you're all having a good semester and being safe. For our first meeting this semester we will be attending this zoom talk by Andy Reese. He is an environmental consultant primarily doing work in stormwater management and green infrastructure design! We suggest listening if you can make it to the zoom lecture!

Municipal stormwater expert Andrew J. (Andy) Reese will present Voodoo Hydrology – Urban Hydrology and How to Avoid Common Mistakes as part of the WKU School of Engineering and Applied Sciences’ Bell Lecture Series.

Reese has published over 45 articles and papers nationally and internationally; co-authored an authoritative 1,400 page, textbook: Municipal Storm Water Management, now in second edition; and was the principal author of the nationally popular Georgia Stormwater Management Manual as well as over 20 stormwater and site design manuals.
