Representatives of the Robert and Mary Tincher Charitable Foundation announced a gift of more than $4.2 million to benefit students at Western Kentucky University at a press conference in Bowling Green, Ky., on Sept. 3, 2026. The gift will establish two scholarship funds, one to support students from Warren county and another to benefit men's and women's golf student-athletes.

In honor of their transformational investments, the Robert and Mary Tincher Charitable Foundation will be recognized as WKU's Philanthropist of the Year. This award, which honors the generosity, leadership and commitments of the recipients, will be presented at the Hilltopper Excellence Awards during Homecoming 2026.

The Hilltopper Excellence Awards, presented by Franklin Bank & Trust, will be held on Thursday, Nov. 12 and include the induction of the 35th class of noted alumni as well as additional recognitions for alumni and supporters of WKU

The Doctors Prabodh and Daksha Mehta, long-time friends of The Center, have established the Mehta Fund for Excellence for the Center for Gifted Studies with a gift of $100,000. This endowed fund will be used to carry forward the important work of The Center.

Prabodh and Daksha have been physicians in Elizabethtown where they raised their two daughters, both of whom are now physicians. Today, Sneha is a rheumatologist living in Philadelphia, and Priya is a cardiologist living in Chicago. Sneha and Priya participated in programming offered by The Center.

When the Mehta family moved to Elizabethtown, Daksha came to the Hill to visit Dr. Julia Roberts. From that time on, she was actively involved with The Center, serving on the Advisory Board, and participating in KAGE activities as well as supporting education in Elizabethtown.

"It has been a great pleasure to know and work with Dr. Julia Roberts and The Center for Gifted Studies for almost three decades. Both our daughters have benefited tremendously from various programs that they have attended. Resources for gifted education are often limited, and we feel that every child should have the opportunity to reach their maximum potential. We hope that this gift will help enhance the wonderful work that is being done at The Center," Daksha and Prabodh Mehta.

Three WKU alumni will be recognized for their service to WKU and the community at the Hilltopper Excellence Awards during Homecoming 2026. Dixie C. Mahurin ('62, '67) will receive the Distinguished Medal of WKU Service, and George K. Fant III ('15) and Chastity D. Fant ('15) will receive the Distinguished Medal of Community and Public Service. The Hilltopper Excellence Awards, presented by Franklin Bank & Trust, will be held on Thursday, Nov. 12 and include the induction of the 35th class of noted alumni as well as additional recognitions for alumni and supporters of WKU.

Recent graduate, Michael Diugu (’26) made the most of his time on the Hill by lending his time and skills to a variety of student groups from CEBS Ambassadors, the African Student Union, Why Knot Us, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., ISEC, and more. A Psychology major from Nashville, Tenn., Michael plans to pursue a master’s degree in Counseling at WKU where he has already built connections and community.
