In 1982 the BGSU student chapters for the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) and the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) were created to help students entering fields related to supply chain management. The two societies would be used as vital and integral tools to instill leadership, create networking opportunities and build confidence for students entering the work force
upon graduation. The student chapters of the ISM and APICS steadily grew in numbers and in university involvement. As a result in 2011, after almost twenty years of operating independently, the ISM and APICS voted to become one entity known as the Supply Chain Management Association. Since the merger the SCMA has provided students with valuable personal and professional insights through guidance, mentoring, networking, resume workshops, hosting accomplished guest speakers, facility tours, social events and competing in inter-district case competitions. As of 2012 SCMA members have helped the BGSU APICS chapter attain Platinum status each of the previous three years. SCMA members have also contributed to the recent APICS Great Lakes District Case Competition placing 1st among 30 other undergraduate supply chain programs. The program has also received national recognition as US News and World Report recently ranked BGSU’s undergraduate Supply Chain program as a top 20 program in the country. The SCMA strives to maintain Bowling Green’s’ strong reputation as a premier supply chain program while developing young professionals to shape the future of commerce through sound, effect supply chain practices.
