DAAD New York is pleased to share the exciting news about the University Summer Course Grants available to US and Canadian students (Undergraduates, Master’s and PhD Candidates) for the summer of 2025.

These scholarships provide a wonderful opportunity for students to participate in three- to four-week summer courses conducted in German at various German universities. The courses primarily focus on literary, cultural, political, and economic aspects of modern and contemporary Germany including German Language for engineers and economists and the field of law. Alongside these academic offerings, students can also engage in advanced language learning and enjoy extracurricular programs that enhance their experience. Through its University Summer Course Grant, DAAD offers exciting opportunities to learn German in Germany (https://www.daad.org/en/find-funding/undergraduate-opportunities/university-summer-course-grant/) to Bachelor, Master and PhD students.

This program provides scholarships to attend a broad range of three- to four-week summer courses at German universities which focus mainly on German language and literary, cultural, political and economic aspects of modern and contemporary Germany.

Students from any subject area with A1 level German (according to the Europäischer Referenzrahmen) and higher are eligible to apply.

Bachelor students must have completed at least two academic years by the start of the scholarship period.

Department of World Languages and Cultures, Bowling Green State University (Main Campus).

World Languages and Cultures invites applications for a full-time directorship in Salzburg, Austria and instructorship in German. This is a fiscal year, non-tenure track, renewable position. Start date is August 2020.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in German Studies, European Studies, or related area (e. g., History, Music, or Political Science with a European focus); experience as an instructor of record teaching classes in German Studies, European Studies, or a related area (e.g., History, Music, or Political Science with a European focus); work-related experience with study abroad; work-related experience managing budgets; proficiency in German and English (equivalent to ACTFL “Superior” or CEFR “C1”).

Preferred Qualifications: Doctoral degree in German Studies, European Studies, or related area; work experience as a faculty member or staff member with administrative responsibilities at university systems in the USA and Europe; communication, organizational and collaboration skills; demonstrated experience in a collaborative approach to curricular and co-curricular program development; demonstrated experience with experiential learning models such as service-learning, community engagement, internships, and education abroad.

Application must include: 1) letter of application; 2) current curriculum vitae; 3) statement of teaching/student mentorship philosophy; 4) names and addresses of three individuals who will provide original letters of reference that speak to the candidate’s teaching and administrative abilities (dated within past year); and 5) a transcript indicating highest degree earned (an official transcript is required for employment). Application materials should work together to address the candidate’s qualifications.
