About the Alumni Center:

The Augenstein Alumni Center was dedicated in 2013 in recognition of the philanthropy and leadership of Michael Dale Augenstein (’81). A devoted volunteer, Augenstein was President of the WKU Alumni Association Board of Directors in 2011-2012. During this time, he also served as chairman for the Alumni Center Building Campaign and provided financial support to ensure the

Alumni Center became a reality. On March 4, 2022, the WKU Board of Regents voted to approve naming the Center the Eva & Jim Martens Alumni Center in recognition of a transformational gift received to benefit the facility and WKU Athletics.

“As you know, as President Caboni said, all WKU campus tours start right here in this building,” he [Jim Martens} said of the alumni center. “It’s a welcome place for all people from around the world regardless of their race, color, creed or country of origin. WKU offers a chance to build a foundation for a better life. I came here because of WKU, and I stayed here because of WKU. It’s not about where you start – It’s about where you finish.”

Western Kentucky University on Friday commemorated Eva and Jim Martens’ philanthropic work after the school recently rededicated the alumni center in the couple’s honor.
