Dr. Margaret Booth has served in a variety of roles at BGSU for 26 years, from a professor and researcher, to the Dean of the Graduate College, and most importantly as the founder of the MACIE program. She is originally from Cleveland, Ohio and has plans to retire there. Dr. Booth has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in Secondary Education from Miami University, and a Master of Arts degree in International Studies, followed by a PhD in Education, both from Ohio University. Before coming to BGSU, Dr. Booth taught middle and high school English in Cincinnati, Kenya, and Cleveland, and has conducted research in Eswatini (then called Swaziland), Manchester, England, Cleveland, and most recently Fremont, Ohio. She is a Returned Peace Corp Volunteer who served in Kenya at the start of her career. It was during her time in Africa that Dr. Booth became involved with longitudinal research, specifically with a focus in investigating the interactive effects of one’s cultural context on human development.
