Hi Bobcats! My name is Ava Arrowsmith, and I’m from Laurel, MT. I’m currently in my last semester of Business Management here at MSU, and have enjoyed every part of it.
When I’m not in Jabs, I’m at the School of Music. I participate in the MSU Wind Symphony, where I play oboe. I also play Baritone Saxophone in the Spirit of the West Marching Band (Montana State University Marching Band), and have had the honor of serving as Field Captain and Backfield Conductor this season.
Playing music and participating in these ensembles has been something I looked forward to during the day. I highly encourage everyone to get involved with the great music programs here at MSU. Come to a pop-up concert around campus, stick around during the halftime show of a football game, or even stop by Reynolds Recital Hall to watch MSU’s multiple ensembles.
I chose Business Management at Jabs because I knew I wanted to help people. There are many ways to do this—growing businesses, communicating through Human Resources, creating a brand identity, etc. Jabs provides many resources and classes for people to find their niche, and I would specifically suggest using the Bracken Center. Even if you don’t know what exactly you want to work towards, the Bracken Center is full of knowledgeable individuals who want to help!
My biggest piece of advice for students would be: don’t be afraid to participate. Don’t be scared to join clubs (here are some through Jabs), don’t worry about speaking up in class, and don’t be afraid to put your heart into the work you are doing. Your time in college will go by fast, and sometimes the best people you meet are those you find when you participate in all that Jabs has to offer. So apply for that internship, go introduce yourself to that professor, and don’t be afraid to participate at MSU!
