The sounds you will hear on campus today are laughter and the song in the hearts of everyone who loves winter sports. On Friday, October 9, it was 84°F. Some recalled that our first big snow last year did not appear until late November, but by Saturday night, the snow was falling, which it continued to do all Sunday. Our teacher candidates returned to campus on Monday with a playful attitude to enjoy the lovely views and duck under low-hanging limbs.

Scrambled eggs, sausage, and round table discussions? Must be today's Stakeholders' Breakfast. This is where the MSU Teacher Education Program and our Office of Field Placement and Licensure invite superintendents, school administrators, our field supervisors, and our teacher education program faculty to have a discussion about what we are planning, what we are doing right or wrong, and how we can continuously improve our teacher candidates' learning opportunities in the public schools. It is a congenial event, and the food is good, so if you are invited next year, we recommend it.

It is homecoming week at MSU. One of the events ahead is a celebration of 100 years of Herrick Hall, one of Montana State University's most historic buildings. Built in 1926, Herrick Hall was named in honor of Mrs. Una Herrick, Montana State College's first Dean of Women, who served students from 1911 to 1932. Today, the building is home to family and consumer sciences, food and nutrition laboratories, early childhood education, and the MSU Child Development Center.
