Today we commemorate Juneteenth—the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally received word of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. History is meant to be learned, honored, and understood.

Bridgewater State University will be closed today, Friday June 19th 2026, in observance of Juneteenth.
