The History of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated

In 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority became America's first Greek-letter organization established by Black college women. Louis, Missouri. She viewed the Sorority as an instrument for enriching the social and intellectual aspects of college life by providing mental stimulation through interaction with friends and associates. Through the years

, however, Alpha Kappa Alpha's function has become more complex. Congratulations to our phenomenal AKA sister, Ebony McQueen, Ph.D., on the successful defense of her dissertation at Suffolk University! 👏🏽🎓

Her work as a scholar in Applied Developmental Psychology is both powerful and purposeful. By focusing on dismantling sociocultural barriers for caregivers in school-based special education processes, she is helping to create more equitable and empowering systems for families. Her commitment to strengthening relationships between caregivers and school administrations—while centering the intersections of race, disability, and family advocacy—reflects scholarship that truly serves the community.

Dr. McQueen embodies excellence, intellect, and impact, and we are incredibly proud of all that she has accomplished. Her work will undoubtedly open doors and uplift countless families for years to come.
